Active with Tash
Hi I am Tash
I am a Personal Trainer in Cardiff, Wales. I have been training for over 3 years mostly with clients who have a neurological condition. Now I hope to help as many different people as possible achieve their fitness dreams whether they be able bodied or have a disability. My passion and excitement comes out when I see someone find something that drives them to exercise and achieve a goal they never expected they could. This is what Active with Tash is about achieving.
I am obsessed with learning more about exercise and I am always reading research or signing up to a new course so that I can see as many different people as possible.

Qualifications
2018-2022
My MSci in Sport, Exercise and Health science (4 years, joint masters) not only gives me further understanding on biomechanics, physiology and nutrition for different population groups but also developed my ability to critically analyse research so that I can always create training plans based on up to date non-biased research. With social media being at it's highest ever, critical thinking about the information you are seeing is at its most importance.

2022-2025
In 2022 I worked for a neurological rehabilitation clinic in South Wales as a personal trainer and physiotherapist assistant where I increased my knowledge on neurological conditions including Parkinson's, Stroke, MS, MND, SCI, Brain injuries, Amputee's, and more.

During this time frame I also completed some further qualifications and CPD:
-
Advanced personal training level 4
-
Nutrition and weight management
-
Nutrition for Sport and Exercise
-
Exercise referral (enabling me to work with populations with medical conditions)
-
Spinal cord injury management for therapists and good clinical practice
-
Parkinson's Disease Warrior trainer L1 & L2
-
Kettlebells, suspension training, circuits and functional training
-
Core training and control
-
Exercise for Parkinson's

Continuing professional development:
I am passionate about being a member for CIMSPA who you must always demonstrate continuing professional development to remain a member. By the end of 2025 I intend to have reached my Level 4 in nutrition which shall enable me to work with more population groups. I will also like to have completed further training in neurological conditions.
My Fitness Journey
I have always been a runner. First running for Cardiff athletics where I ran 100m and 200m. I did a little bit of cross country but I was never that great at distance running. After a hamstring injury when I was 17 I found my sprinting days outside of football were over, and thats when I dabbled with a few 5km runs here and there.
I ran every 5k I did at my max for about 4 years.
Then in 2021 my dad and I randomly did our first 10km and half marathon with no training, no drinks and no fuel at Run Fest. I loved every second, my dad felt like he was going to collapse the whole way, and I knew I was onto my new passion.

That same year my uncle who is an impressive cyclist encouraged me and my dad to join them as support riders for Morrello Marvels cycling group (a group for people with neurological conditions to participate in cycling) who were intending to complete the CarTen (Cardiff to Tenby ride). This ride is about 180km/110miles. I did a bit of training but as I was on my own on a cheap hybrid bike I found the day extremely hard and I promised I would never be back.

Well I was obviously wrong because fast forward to 2025 I have completed 2 more 10k race, 6 more half marathons, 1 marathon, the CarTen again and 1 sprint triathlon.

The CarTen (2024) was still horrible the second time round but I actually felt good until the last 20miles this time. I would love to say it was down to new found bike skills but it was absolutely just down to a new road bike. That year I fell off my bike countless times even without being clipped in!

My favourite fitness moment and maybe favourite moment of all time was the London Marathon 2023. I had a rough run up to the event with glandular fever and the classic runners knee and I started training on a relatively severe ankle injury. So in classic Briggs style I basically ran it with no training. My longest run before the day was a half marathon. Yet the day was perfect. I dropped my ego and ran nice and slowly and consumed lots of sugar and then even finished with a negative split because I had aced the plan. The day started wet and gloomy and ended sunny with a pint with so many close friends and family. The support along the course from people you know and strangers is on another level to anything you will experience outside of sport and it has never left me since.

I am now training for all sorts of things including triathlons, running and always maintain my strength training.
I value strength training above everything because without it I couldn't have solved my own runners knee, a ligament injury to my ankle and now almost completely solved a long term minor shoulder injury. Always seek help from a physiotherapist or other medical professional in regards to serious injuries, however minor niggles and aches and pains can usually be solved with simple exercises.
